    Sandy soil is too dry, because the rain water seeps easily around the sand particles. It cannot hold nutrients. So you can't grow crops on it.

    During the last glacial period (20.000 years ago), the Netherlands had a polar climate. Wind blew sand and silt over to the Netherlands. The wind formed dunes. It has a slightly slopping surface.
