How do you help someone who is hyperglycemic
- Call emergency services and them you suspect hyperglycemia.
- Keep checking the casualty's breathing, pulse and level of response while you wait.
- Be prepared that they may become unresponsive and ware of how to treat an unresponsive casualty.
How do you help someone with hypoglycaemic?
- Help them to sit down.
- either help them to take their own glucose gel, or find them some sweets, 200ml of fruit or fizzy drink or 4 teaspoons of sugar to take (this should be around 20g of glucose check label)
- if they improve, find them more sugary food or drink, and let them rest, stay with them until they feel better.
- If they don't improve, check for other causes and call emergency services for assistance.
- while waiting for help, keep checking their breathing, pulse and level of response.
